Advertising Agency//Marketing Headhunters

We're moving to HK in c.4 month's time ... I need to find a new job.

I'm currently a board director of an advertising agency -- and have also held senior marketing positions in large multinational corpoates.

I'll be approaching organisations directly and networking of course, but can anyone recommend any suitable HK-based headhunters/recruitment consultants? (Over and above the usual suspects i.e. manpower/michael page?

Thanks in advance.

Job hunters in Hong Kong

Dear Crippo:

I am sure you have heard of the website JobsDB, the jobsearch engine. On their front page theres a flasing icon called the Premiere Agency, u can click inside to view a list of agencies in Hong KOng, including some large multinational ones.

Hope you would find it helpful

Best luck for ur job search.

If you've been in a senior position, don't even bother with jobsdb. They tend to be suitable for mass market positions and your average candidate.

What can you do while you're in Australia?

Make a list of everyone and every company you've dealt with. Call them and find out if they have anything going on in Hong Kong -- tell them you'll be in Hong Kong for a long period of time and are looking for contacts.

If you cant find a dozen useful contacts... I'd be surprised.

Next, when you get here, network ruthlessly with the various people and groups in the business. You should get a good lead a day or two.. there is a definate shortage of creative minds in the creative industry here.

Yeah, Aquent is good. Forget the name of the person I know there but do try and get hold of an expatriate within Aquent, the majority there seem to be focused on local hires.

At Aquent - speak to Josephine Cheung. Josephine runs all the ad agency hires and she is great. I have been dealing with her over the last few weeks. Ivy Ford runs the Aquent office and I think she deals with more of the client-side roles. This could also be good for you as many clients like to hire ex-agency people. The only downside (well for me at least) is that a lot require Cantonese and/or Mandarin - even at very Senior levels.

Aquent seem to have more agency jobs than anywhere else.

Also check out media.com.hk. There is a careers section which lists lots of jobs.

Additionally, there are always lots of marketing/advertising jobs advertised in the job section of the South China Morning Post which comes out on Saturday.

Good luck.

BTW - when you do get a job then feel free to hire me. I am also in the industry!
