South Horizons - Ap Lei Chau I'm moving to Hong Kong this summer from Chicago and have some questions about the different neighborhoods. My employer (one of the international schools) gives teachers the option of living at South Horizons on Ap Lei Chau or you can take the housing stipend and find another apt. I'm 31 year old single woman... any input on living in that part of Hong Kong? Is it a good location? Easy to get to other places? Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Where is the school? Ap Lei Chau is a small island off the southern end of HK island... Very nice down there but the commute might be a pain if the school is right in town. It's 'the boonies' Last edited by lowlight; 25-02-2006 at 04:31 AM.

| Well, its not as bad as living on say ... Cheung Chau or Tuen Mun. Its an ok middle class type area. I'd bet the school has a bus that you might be able to hitch a ride on.

Where will you be teaching? The Canadian International School is located in Shum Wan which is very close to South Horizons, so it would make sense for you if you are teaching there.

oh, really?! I live in South Horizons too. The sea view is great with fresh air. I take half hour to Wanchai or 40 mins to Central daily, it is more convenient to take public transport in HK. So did you arrive yet? Maybe we could play tennis game in clubhouse. Should you need assitance, pls feel free to drop message at man34180@hotmail.com

I'd suggest to live in Sham Wan Towers. These are the three towers, when you come over the bridge to Ap Lei Chau Though its slightly more expensive, it doesn't have that crowded feel and even the smaller units have open view. Whats more, it is much newer (completed in 04) and has a lovely club house and swimming. Maybe check out this thread: http://www.geoexpat.com/forum/sham-wan-tower-t6570.html
