Will I get the work permit?

I've just been offered a job as a financial journalist in HK, with my pay package being HK$18k/m. While that's not generous, it's decent for someone with my experience.

However, I'm slightly concerned (or paranoid) about the work permit, because I've heard rumors of how you'll need a minimum of HK20k to get that, and since I don't, will I get rejected?

Bizarre!

If you have some specific expertise, knowledge or skills then the salary isn't the key factor... don't worry about it - if you have an employer supporting your application who knows what they are doing then you should be OK.
