May I ask what you guys think about this scheme?
Do you think it's attractive to elites all over the world?
Do you think it can help HK?

Cheers, Blom

I think it prevents business-minded entrepeneurs the opportunity to come to the country and make money. You need all sorts of useless crap like university degrees, etc.

I guess they want all their citizens to be white collar working slaves

Nonsense... absolute nonsense. They just don't want to start the colonial cycle where any idiot in town could walk in and become a bartender.

If you're really that good, you can come in on an investment visa... like I said earlier.

Yeah, because if you don't have $6 million HKD to start up a company, you're nothing more than a bartender...

Typical "expat" attitude

Hardly, there are tons of ways to get in and in work here.

What I had a problem with was your classification of anyone who wants to work for a living as a "white collar slave".

HK is still far easier a place to work and live in than most European or North American countries and I sort of find their attitudes weird that they think that they have the right to walk in and work or run a business here in Hong Kong, when, if they were not born into their own countries, they would not be able to qualify for a work visa.

Take a look at any country that has a point based immigration scheme and you'll see that a university degree is essential.

I guess school is essential to get otherwise incapable people along in life... And if you're going to base an immigration scheme on something other than ability, this is best thing to assure they don't get an influx of absolutely useless citizens. Point well taken.
