nation has a spectacular aura aboutnation has a spectacular aura about
How near is near? - 10 minute walk, 10 MTR, 10 min tram, 10 min ferry. Expected rent? - HK$5,000 for a 300 sq dive, HK$100,000 for 5 spacious bedder with open sea views, 6 star facilities etc

Take a look at this website http://www.gohome.com.hk/english/home.asp? and read in conjuction with http://www.ypmap.com/en/viewer.asp?m...ce=LocationMap to get an idea of rents and locations. And take a look at this wiki to get an idea of transport in HK

Well, that would be somewhere between HK$ 10,000 and HK$ 900,000 per month.

Not really, lots of old chinese buildings in Sheung Wan and Western for 5-6K / month for a small flat (200sq ft or so)

There is some cheap accomodation in Shenzhen, but then you need to add travel cost and travel time.

With 3.5 K you should set your mind on a flat share, the money will go a lot further. You could share a decent enough place (600-700ft) in mid-levels, Wanchai, or Sheung Wan.

You can get your own place for 3.5 K, but it'll be a small crampt place, perhaps even a flat split into rooms with ensuites. It'll be a lot better to do a flat share.
