| | | Hi!
It might sounds a bit different from the others, but an option for you could also be to search for a job in MACAO. This city is only 60 km from HK (1h by boat) and is expanding very fast (new casinos...). Macao immigration will deliver to you a 3 months tourist visa that you can in fact renew very easly by crossing the border to China and coming back a few days after. The immigration will again grant you 3 months tourist visa. Accomodation is really cheap comapre to HK (decent place can be as low as 2000 HK$, less than 180 USD) and people are searching a lot for native english speaker regardless of their degree...Coming there you could go to HK every week and searching at the same time for a better place in HK....hope it can help....

| | | sorry to have to throw you some cold water... but don't get too excited or hopeful, coz things may not go as well as you woulda anticipated. there's no way to tell whether or not you will be able to work in hk unless you've already secured a job with an employer. and there's the marriage thing... why get in a rush to marry her if you've only known her for 2 years (online) and met only once??? sometimes when you're so faithful to someone (to the extend that you can give up everything you've been familiar with all your life and give all that you have to that person) that you'll actually buy it when she tells you that she feels the same way about you and stuff.
i am sorry, but i guess all i am saying is that maybe you should... wait... and see if... your relationship gets to the point where you really want to be her guardian angel for life.
good luck, pal. | |

| | | Tym, if you ever get back here, I think I can give you some pretty good input. I was born in Hong Kong and have the right of abode here, but I just spent seven years living in and around New York City. Hong Kong is drastically different from the US. I'm trying to get a job tutoring English right now, and I have a year's experience doing just that at a university in NY. I also have a two year (Associate's) degree, but that doesn't really mean shit out here.....I guess it's better than NO degree, though...I'm still waiting to hear back from one of the numerous places that I've sent my CV to.
Dude, you definitely wanna come out here and see how you feel...that takes money, though....and I think I'm safe in assuming you don't have a lot of that if you have a student loan. I don't think HK gives a shit about your American credit history...but yeah, since I was born here, I don't know too much about immigration here.

| | Yes, its me Tymothe Ok, its been a year since my last post and currently I'm going to school to get my BS of English and have 1.5 years left. I've visited my girlfriend in HK back in August and only got to stay for two weeks but I had a great time. By the way, its really really hot in HK during August!
I loved HK and even if we don't remain together during that 1.5 years, I still plan to move there. Incidently, I've solved my credit problem so I won't worry about that obstructing any Visa application. I am wondering about the posibility of moving to Macau as an alternative?

| | I can't really answer your questions because I haven't gotten married yet. We're still together and I've been in HK for almost six months on this last visit... going back to the USA at the end of June to take the final tests. Then I'll be moving over here again (permenantly this time) in September or October when I will begin my job search. I've spent the time in the interm working on things like TEFL etc so I should be good to go. But it has been quite alot of work to get to this point. Thanks for asking though I use a different name now on this website but I've been active ever since Nov 2003
