Greetings everyone,
I have applied for a few jobs on Hong Kong island within the ESF group. I was wondering if anyone can advise on what is a good rate of pay, which schools to avoid, whether accomodation should be part of the package etc..
Also is it necessary to live on HK island? I worry as I have a young baby who has some lung issues (he was prem) and am not sure how he would go with the smog etc.. Is there somewhere nearby that is a bit cleaner in air, but from which I can travel to work?
If there is any ex-Aussies living and working in ESF schools can you give me a run down on how you have found the living conditions and whether it is worth the move?

Without a doubt the air quality in the Sai Kung/Clearwater Bay area is better than most other areas. ESF have a primary school on CWB Road. Others will give you advice on pay etc.

Well ESF schools pay the best salaries for Hk schools and they are an excellent company to work for. Thers some talk at the moment about pay cuts etc but i still regard them as the best schools in HK. You need to look at the ESF website to gather exact location of all schools but they are all over Hk so living in the island is not cumpulsory (but it is fun)!!
Im not aussie so i dont know the quality of schools that ur used to but coming from England im very impressed.
Accomodation is not usaully provided but there are instances where you can get rent subsidies etc

I have heard that the international schools (FIS, HKIS, GSIS) pay better than the ESF (even though the ESF still pays extremely well).

The ESF do not include housing allownace anymore.

I would think that either an ESF school or international school will be good pay either way! So, either or!

well everything is on the internet: google: ESF+SALARY+TEACHERS or something similar...and you will get the whole details: salary for 2006/2007, Allowances, .....

I agree with Discobay that air quality would be better in Sai Kung / Clearwater bay areas. ESF schools in both Kowloon and up in Sha Tin. Both within easy commuting distance.
