Pgde

I'm thinking of doing a teacher training course eg. PGDE at the Uni of HK and was wondering if anyone (particularly non-locals) out there is currently enrolled in this course or has plans to do it. Am I better off studying in my hometown in terms of recognition or it wouldn't matter a bit if I did it at a local university in HK. Which university in HK is well known for its faculty of education?

I'm a local, but there're quite an amount of foreigners studying PDGE in HK. Sure there'll be some GeoExpats answering you later.

In terms of the reputation of the Universities themselves, HKU and CUHK have better reputation internationally. HKIEd does offer PGDE as well, and they're specializing in teacher training.

If you plan to stay in HK to teach in the future, it's better for you to study PGDE here, coz it's local recognized qualification, which is important.

Cheers, Blom

Well, I recently got onto the PGDE course at the hong kong institute of education starting in September. By the way, with a PGDE you have to attend a 6 week immersion course in either the UK, CAnada, New Zealand or Australia. Plus, the government pays 85% of it, so it's like a cheap holilday!

Oh, i've heard from a NET doing a part-time PGDE at HK university say that the level of English of the tutors there is terrible as he usually doesn't understand what he has to do in his assignments

But HKied specializes in teacher training! I'm sure employers would regard a PGDE from HKied in higher favour than one from HKU, right?

Anyway, the reason why i didn't apply for HKU is because their campus is too far away for me and because of what the NET told me.

I'm going to do full time PGDE as i'm currently not working. I take it you're doing a part-time course as you're already a NET? Thing is, I'm getting an interview for the position of a NET in March but i have to send off my initial tuition fees for the PGDE course by wednesday. Just don't know what to do! If i get accepted as a NET, do i work or do I study?

Pgde

Hi there,

I am presently attending my PGDE in HKU.

Well , the standard of English of tutors , as pointed out by somebody, is seriosuly flawed, but that doesnt hamper the learning.

I am also an expat.

I am finding it quiet interesting, altough after a long tiring day , sometimes it gets on to the nerve, plus not to forget the assignments expected to be regularly submitted.
