Is there any equivalent of 'Richer Sounds' here in HK? I've been mulling over getting a basic (but fair quality - e.g. NAD, Marantz, Cambridge Audio etc) stereo amp and not seen anywhere except a dodgy looking shop on Hennessey Rd near Causeway Bay and the very high-end audio shops in Times Square etc.

PhilE, there are also the high-end shops in Ocean Terminal, TST. Otherwise there is some kit in the upstairs hi-fi shops in Mong Kok.

Hi DB - yes I remember now - theres a whole floor of flat panel TV and hi-end audio shops in Ocean Terminal. Dangerous place to be after pay day

Has anyone bought this kind of equipment in HK (i.e. audio amps, AV amps, 'good' speakers)? How do the prices compare to the retailers in the UK - are we looking at bargains (defined in my case as similar price to the UK but less VAT) or are they generally considered luxury goods and priced as such?

You will seldom get prices enywhere near as good as the US or UK in HK, which is why i started looking for 2nd hand eq.I'm not sure if its just me or do the locals here get royaly screwed when buying AV EQ?

I get the impression that there's just not the same market for it. Lots of all-in-one DVD/AV-amp, 5.1 solutions sold in Fortress and Broadway. The idea of separates just seems to be seen as a high end thing here.

I guess it raises the question why the UK in particular is so separates driven. Perhaps its to do with still having a decent music industry and a history in AV design. Still would have expected to find deals on Onkyo/ Denon here and some firms like KEF manufacture in China now.

Whilst I remember, this place in Sai Wan Ho is popular on some UK forums and sells a limited range of AV stuff at OK prices (particularly projectors and KEF speakers):

5.1 Centre Speaker

William06, did you get anywhere with your quest for a second hand hi-fi shop?

I am after a single centre speaker for a surround sound set up and could really do with a trip to Richer Sounds (UK store - clears manufacturers old stock)

Looking at PhilE recommendation there is a KEF Q6C Centre Speaker for sale at for HK$1500 which is for sale in Richer sounds at £39.

I could do with that second hand shop to save some cash for world cup beer

Also I need digital interconnects.. any recommends to places to buy them..
