| haha, cmon have some guts! C'mon mate, it's not THAT bad! It's not like they're all drooling over you. I got the impression that once they determined I was straight they were just polite and kept their distance. Suited me just fine, as long as I got my coffee... |

| Ever tried Zambra Cafe in Wanchai? Nice place and nice coffee. I always spend there an hour or two reading my book or doing some thinking. |

This truly gave me a headache-why not just say its at 49-51 Chatham Rd . exit A2 for MTR and leave it at that Back in the gay unfriendly days there used to be a joint just off LKF where I used to Happy Hour regularly, but I never knew as the action always started later. Once I came home to learn that the place had been raided-that cured me of my happy hours. |

The reason I didn't say that it was at 49-51 Chatham Rd is because that is not where it is. That address is close to where it is, but that is the wrong address. Also your suggestion of "exit A2 for MTR" is the nearest exit, but it doesn't explain what to do once you leave that exit. It is easy to walk out of that exit but yet not find the place we are talking about. I note that you have made some 1,375 posts on this website. That indicates to me that you have probably spent a lot of time in HK and therefore are very familiar with the HK layout and scene. Perhaps you can cast your mind back to the very first days or weeks when you arrived in HK, I am sure you would have appreciated very specific directions back then. I have only been resident in Hong Kong 22 days, although I intend to stay here some years. In those 22 days I have taken wrong turns that might seem minor to the seasoned HK veteran, but that ended up in me getting lost for periods of up to 30 minutes before finding my way again. I am sure HK newbies can sympathise with this. And I am sure if you honestly cast your mind back to the very first time you tried to navigate your way around narrow and complicated HK streets you can remember a time you got lost simply because of some minor wrong turn. I think it is far better to provide too much explanation than too little. I'm sorry if your head hurt by trying to understand. I have received some good information from these forums which has helped me settle into HK nicely. I was merely trying to help by reciprocating and provide some useful feedback. If you particularly dislike my writing style, I'm happy to defer to you as a much more prolific poster and stop making contributions. |

Now that was a headache which even a cold coffee from a charchanteng could not cure. |

| Getting back to the coffee... Just tried the coffee at the chocolate cafe on level 10 of Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau, near the specialty Italian supermarket (as recommended earlier in the thread). Two enthusiastic thumbs up. So to summarize for those new to this increasingly lengthy thread, seriously good coffee can be had at: 1/ Eat Right, SoHo 2/ Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau And decent coffee in a cool atmosphere can be had at: Epoch - the Illy Cafe off Star St in Wanchai Not quite enough to fill a guidebook yet, but things are looking up. |

Cha Chaan Ten - have you been to Tsui Wah right outside of LKF? Opposite to Yung Kee? That's a typical example of HK style Cha Chaan Ten, they always serve food in sets, menu tuck underneath the glass top of the table, you have to take the receipt to the cashier when leaving... i hope that all well-explained what a cha chaan ten is. Yuen Yeung = Coffee + Ceylon tea (or any dark color tea) + milk/cream only available in Cha Chaan Ten i think Kafa (it has a camel logo, Morrocan Coffee i reckon) - I found it inside a building on Wyndham Street, sited in a big corner area at the lobby. and that building is right behind Marks & Spencer on Queen's Rd and Wyndham. I passed by today and found it closed on Sunday. |
