hi all,
may i know where's the cheapest place to get english cds in hk? im talking abt original ones here and what are the usual prices? i heard the cds are realli cheap in shen zhen but am concerned abt the authenticity, can someone kindly advise? thanks

Just dont go to HMV! I think HK records in Pacific Place with have the best selection of english stuff, and pretty standard price. Other than that, there are not a lot of places selling english stuff.

Actually, I don't think HMV's prices are too bad - they're running a decent sale at the moment, with lots of CDs and DVDs at $68-$88, but it seems their standard price for chart CDs is either $88 or $98, which is comparable to Amazon (.com and .co.uk), as a benchmark for decent music prices... I'm not saying HMV are the cheapest, but they're certainly reasonable, considering the convenience and range.

Are you looking for something special or just general pop music?

There're a couple of stores in Mongkok which offer cheaper CDs. Sino Centre (582-592 Nathan Road) used to have quite a lot of good stores, but you gotta check out if it's still the same like before.

HK Record also has shops in Time Square and Festival Walk.

what's wrong with internet downloads?

if you take a few precautions to ensure that you slip under the radar of the record companies, your chances of getting caught are literally about as good as winning the lottery. you can then download to your hearts content.

Yeah I bet so.. have a look around Mongkok, you should find something cheap!!

Apart from the smaller shops there are three chain stores worth visiting HMV, Hong Kong Records and CD Warehouse. As vmlinuz points out HMV does have crazy sale prices where their prices undercut their competitors by $5 to $10! Small shops are OK for local content but most will only have chart topping English content.
