Red face Which Uni in HK to do MBA?

Hi there,

Which uni would you recommend for a MBA? I'm meant to be relocating to HK to work and husband is thinking of taking time off from work and wants to do his MBA in Hong Kong. What would you guys recommend? We're from Singapore. Thanks heaps!

I guess u r asking about fulltime?
if yes, then the best 2 schools are
HKU (cooperation with LBS!) or HKUST
rest is too local/no good programs in my opinion (esp. CU, mostly mainlanders)

certainly all depends on his criteria on what program to do/ what to get out of it after the MBA. zillions of books about this that he should check out.

Ya, full time. What he wants to get out of it....not exactly sure, his current job is with a telco company and he a channel manager. He guess he's looking for something to enhance him in his sales and marketing career. Thanks for the tips and especially on CU.

Hello.

Well, You will receive different feedbacks from different people, which is good in one way and very confusing in another.

My daughter is studying in the Hong Kong University, and there was no doubt in my mind that she would do her MBA from HKUST. BUT, the tought lasted for only as long as it took me to realize that HONG KONG UNIVERSITY itself offers a special 1 year Intensive MBA course for its students, which has been recognised and also deemed as one of the best and its kind all over the Asian World. BUT, again do not take my word for it.

I am taking the liberty of giving you the number of Sachin Tipnis, a very helpful person who would know everything that needs to be known to get your facts right about what courses are offered, the fee structure, the time and the advantages of taking on the course. Please remember to tell him that you got the number from me - if you need to introduce yourself or explain to him how you got his number, I am sure he will forgive me!!! (I will send the number to you in your private mail.)

All the best.

Regards,
Rubina.

alikhanrubina,

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I looked through HKU's website again and realised that HKU is really a better uni. My husband would be very interested in the tie up program with London Business School. Thanks heaps!

I'm in the same boat as your husband.. I came to HK with my wife and have had trouble finding a job in my Engineering discipline, so I'm considering an MBA instead.

Apparently the HKU application deadline is Feb 28th and HKUST's deadline is the end of March. Unfortunately I have not taken the GMAT yet!

Has anyone here taken their GMAT in HK? What is it like? Is the test offered on a continuous basis or only on specific dates?

HKUST has an info session for their programs on the 18th.. I'm planning on attending. Info here: http://www.bm.ust.hk/mba/

You've got to hurry a little my friend. GMAT sessions are quite full those days. Some friends even had to go to China to pass it...

Thanks everyone for the posts. Wes, how difficult is it to find a job in HK? Hubby is thinking of getting a job first and if that fails then it's back to Uni. I'm moving to HK only in Aug and if he'll probably do hid MBA in 07.

I think it depends on what his background is. My working experience is in the Oil and Gas industry, while most of the EE jobs here are in electronics and IT.

My plan is to go ahead and apply for the MBA programs while I keep looking for work.
