Editing video on a PC

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a Mini DV cam with a DV out (firewire or USB) for say, I dunno, one week? Is there a place I can hire a DV Cam from?

I have some old Mini DV tapes that I want to convert to avi/mpeg. Does anyone have any experience of this....? What is the best format I should burn to? Is there an optimum bit rate that is a good comprimise between size and quality?

I want to rip it into Pinnacle Studio 10. Is this the best software for editing? Just basic stuff, deleting/adding soundtracks, re-arranging scenes, basic titles and maybe some cheesy hollywood effects.
I want to Burn to very good quality (best possible), as the target format is DVD-9.

Any info, suggestions, experience stories welcome......

Can't help you with the hiring of a mini-dv cam - why don't you just buy one?
For video capture I use Windows Movie Maker; for editing I use TMPGEnc XPress and for DVD authoring I use TMPGEnc DVD Author. Plenty of features in XPress without requiring a PhD. Not burnt DVD-9 myself.

See if you can use IEEE to download the video instead of USB.

In my experience its faster and does not drop as many frames.

Have fun...you will lose all control of time !
