Living in Shenzhen

I would be really grateful for some advice. My husband will be based in Shenzhen but I would like to work in HK as I am a teacher. Will the immigration regulations permit me to do this and commute into HK every day? I am British.

Thank you in advance.

1) You'll need a Hong Kong employment visa to work in Hong Kong.

2) You'll need a China visa to live in China

2) It could get extremely tedious having to go through immigration every day and have a page full of stamps put into your passport (China entry and exit and Hong Kong entry and exit).

Most people who commute to / from Shenzhen are permanent residents in Hong Kong and don't have to stamp passports every time.

Have you considered working in China. There seems to be a rising demand for native english teachers but I'm not sure about Shenzen. You could try.

hello

Please note if you do decide to work in China you will need an employment visa NOT a business visa. This only allows you toattend meetings for example.

That should have read...A BIG thank you to all of you!

I've posted a couple of questions on the forum 'Living in HK' and I'd be really grateful if anyone can help me with those.

Once again, thanks.

teaching in Shenzhen

Hi,

I start teaching in Shenzhen in September this year, and got my job arranged through a Professor at my university in England.

As a result, they arrange my work visa for me and provide me with an apartment, thus taking away some of the worries.

Maybe you could try searching for some ESL jobs online?

Alex

OK Liz,

I'm teaching English as a foreign Language (TEFL) at Guangdong Xin An Polytechnic on Liyuan Road in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen.

Thanks for the best wishes, and I'm sure if you keep looking something will come. I was just lucky in that my UK university was organising a scheme to go and teach in China (they have a big international department with links to Chinese educational institutions)

Best of luck!

Thanks, Alex for your post. Interesting to hear too about your uni. I'm sure you are in for an interesting time and a marvellous opportunity to experience so many different things. Your home country (UK??) is never going to be the same for you and you will find out too how stuck in their ways and out of date, the UK is. I wish you all the very best of luck and would love to know if you have the time how you're getting on. By the way, where did you do your TEFL and what did you make of the course? Is your degree in languages too? If it's not too intrusive which uni did you go to....I'm looking at doing a post grad course with an international; bent to it. Sorry, so many questions.

Anyway, enjoy China and take care.

Liz
