Wink Teaching English in Shenzhen

Hi, Liz

You should definitely try Shenzhen - there IS a rising demand for native English teachers here, especially female. I work for EF, I know they are always looking for new teaching staff. There are three schools in Shenzhen, so I'm sure you'll have no problem landing an ESL job in one of them. Give them a call or check out their web-site: http://www.englishfirst.com/
Good luck!

Vic

Hi everybody,

I profit of this opened thread about living in shenzhen in order to ask a question. I think it is better to use an old thread instead of creating a new one especially if my question can be usual ( if it is the case, sorry about this I have been reading msgs in the forum but I didn't found a good answer ).

So my question is similiar to Liz's in some parts. The facts:

I found a job in HK. My girlfriend is chinese so it is difficult ot her to live HK if she doesn't find a job. So I would like to live in Shenzhen and cross the border everyday.

As far as I have understood, I need a chinese visa. But what kind of multiple entries visa can I apply for? In other words may I be able to get a visa which allows me to live ( but not work ) in China and cross daily the border?

I apologize if this question is not totally HK immigration relevant...!

Best Regards,

Jerome ( PS: I am swiss citizen )

I'm not sure about the Chinese visa requirements, but she could live in HK as your dependent if you were married.

living in Shenzhen working in HK

Hey all,

Just found this forum for us Shenzhen folk working in HK.

I am in the same situation as jerome_S (foreigner, Chinese wife). My better half can ONLY come to HK as a visitor, even though she is my wife, for 3 months at a time. Then she has to exit HK and renew her visitor visa in her hometown in Jiangsu provence in person. A PAIN. And with our child due in October, an impossible obstacle for us to live in HK. So, we will continue living to Shenzhen and I will begin my cross border commute in August as I start my new HK job.

I am hoping to find some info. so that I can get a commuter's pass and zip through customs more quickly.

I am also hoping to set up residency in HK at a buddy's house/address where I can crash here and there and also so my employer can issue me an HK residency card. This residency card will allow my wife to apply for a visitor pass to HK and then and ONLY then could she take advantage of my insurance package from my place of work which is only good in HK. They don't make things easy for mainlanders, even if she is married to a foreigner. Only permanent residents of HK get special priveldges, it would appear, (please correct me if I am wrong).

At any rate, I will make HK bucks and bank them and spend on the China mainland even if the commute kills me. At least until I get a job in HK where I can afford to live there and my wife can live with me.

If you have some helpful info. on the LoWu commuter pass for foreigners, I would GREATLY appreciate hearing what you have to say.

Cheers,

hamlett222

Your wife could get a Chinese passport (which you activate by going on holiday to Thailand for example) and then you apply to HK Immigration for a dependent visa. They won't issue a dependent visa, but will give her a 6 month multiple entry visitor visa (called a CPV). Don't forget to ask for the multiple entry facility when you apply. This is renewable at HK Immigration. Your wife will then only need to return home when her passport is full. Then when your wife has permanent residency in another country, you reapply for the dependent visa. The UK issues permanent resident visas (indefinite leave to remain) to foreigners married to UK citizens for more than 4 years who are living outside the UK.
As for your child, to avoid bureaucratic complications, ensure that the child is born in HK no matter what. He or she will then have dual citizenship plus HK Permanent Residency, which will save you a lot of hassle when it comes to visas etc
