Work Opportunity

Hi,

My GF moved here to try to live out here with me.
She is originally from China, but moved to USA when she was a small child.

She speaks English like an American, and she also speaks mandarin and cantonese and a little japanese.

She graduated from a USA university studying East Asia and Graphic Design and Photography.

She is looking for a job here with a school that would allow her to help with advertising /marketing/design for school things, as well as possibly teach english part time.

I spoke with someone from here and they abruptly shut her out because she is from china originally. I understand many chinese are somewhat moronic in their "self-hating" racism, but was wondering if anyone knows of schools who might be interested in something like this?

Does she have US citizenship? Maybe she could call herself ABC, to avoid the anti-mainland hysteria here...

as for the job, check out the IVE schools

http://www.vtc.edu.hk/vtchome/main.jsp

maybe she could teach design, photography or English there?

Here are two of the bigger English language publishers in HK...

probably for the same reason that Caucasians from Albania (or even from the Caucasus Mountains for that matter) would not be that welcome in lands inhabited by Caucasians in Western Europe.

I guess some of the people in HK simply wanna "separate" themselves with other "Chinese" people (that we're "HK people" but not "Chinese people" notion). At the end, they're just unwilling to admit that, we're all Chinese too. And coz of this and rejecting good potential canditates, I personally think it's even more ridiculous..

Being able to speak Mandarin and English fluently is an advantage! No worries, she'll find something she like, I'm sure! And does she speak fluent Cantonese? I know that design courses in HK usually conducted in Cantonese, that could be a challenge. Anyway, good luck and best wishes~*

Cheers, Blom

This is not a problem that is exclusive to chinese. Every race discriminates against itself, depending on the circumstances.

By the way, I see a fair number of BBCs and ABCs and mainlanders walking around HK fairly happy and employed. So let us not get caught up in the general damnation of what 1.3 billion people as being racist.
