Job search

Wondering whether anyone has posted their resume on SCMP or Jobsdb and has got a response from companies besides insurance companies and job agencies and junk mail. Plus how safe is it?

I do show my resume (only partially on JobsDB). However, I have hidden it now, since I have a job.

Better not to post it up and just apply to the firms directly as they usually have contacts etc on the ad.

I used to post my c.v up on other job websites and the number of agencies that would grill you and ask you questions about your previous employers just so they can pitch there services was unbelievable, C.V farming is also a well known issue particularly in the I.T industry.

Hi Jimbo,

What is CV farming? I don't have much time to search for jobs and was wondering whether posting it might be easier, however i heard one gets more junk then job offers.

C.V farming is when an agency posts up a fake job just so they can get more prospective candidates on there books, So if they say to company A we have 100 potential candiates for you with experience of say SAP HR whereas before they posted the fake job they had 15 candidates its going to improve there chances.

If you call the agency about the 'fake' job they'll always say something like its on hold pending an internal re-shuffle or that they just decided to promote somebody internally, The other things to spot are that the ad is vague and doesn't give any clues whatsoever as to what industry etc the company is in.

Hi Jimbo,

Thanks for the info. Somehow I thought posting it will be easier but doesn't seem like it. Just got to find more time to search and apply.
