HK ID Question

Hi everyone,

My husband is on a three-year renewable contract, when we first arrived he was granted the normal one-year work visa to be renewed in May. Also my dependents visa of course runs out at the same time.
Can anyone tell me does that mean our HK ID card only lasts till the Visa runs out or is it a permanent thing that you return on leaving the country for good?

Thanks

Barbara

Well simply put it... Your HKID is *VALID* until your visa expires.. Though you still keep it or return when you leave, its up to you..

I've asked the same question and this has been the answer:

Your HK ID is used for the rest of your life, ie. when you return in 2030 for your retirement (yeah right! ) then you just flash your ID (well, ID number) and your valid visa (unless you're a local) and your back in business!

I'm sure by then, the 'smart' portion of the HK ID will be used more frequently.
