Apartment in Shatin?

I am going to work near Shatin and am looking for a furnished apartment or village house in that area, preferably near the train station. I am British and going to be employed in the education sector (at CUHK) for at least 2 years. If you can help me out with accomodation or advice, I'd be grateful. Ideally, I am looking for something with one or two bedrooms, maybe 500-1000 sq feet - nothing too expensive.

Try going to local real estate agents near the Shatin KCR station. There's plenty there you can choose from and most of them speak good English. They should be able to help you a lot.

Good luck!

Where to live in NT?

Thanks. Do you think Shatin is a good area to live in? I will work at the University KCR stop. For travel time to work and for access to HK island, would Shatin be a good choice?

Would Kowloon be feasible too? What are the pros and cons of Shatin versus Kowloon?

I think Shatin is alright. Travelling to HK island can be time consuming, but it's still feasible. It's convenient going to work for you, but you could get sick of Shatin very much, as there isn't much there to do. It's like a small town with very country people residing. If you're a country person, then go with Shatin for sure. Otherwise, I'd probably go with Kowloon.

:| I am quite surprise of your description of Shatin... what do you mean by country people?
I live in Tai wai which is near Shatin and work at CUHK, Shatin is quite convenient if you want to commute to CUHK. It's close, it maybe a little bit more expensive than the other places around.
Sure you don't see a lot of white people (my English can be a little bit clumsy, sorry if I misuse this expression). But there is some European/American people in the university that might live around here.
As far as you live nearby a East KCR station, it's very convenient to get to CU. But once you need to change from MTR to KCR, it get longer.
I think that Shatin is still very well deserved by any transportation mean, and if you don't go to Hong Kong Island everyday, it's a good choice.

Ohlala will become famous soon enough
If you work at CUHK, Shatin is one of the good choices. In fact, the night view of Shatin is very beautiful especially facing the Shing Mun River. There are many people jogging, walking, cycliing, and fishing along the river at night. It can be quite relaxing after a long working day, and the air quality is not something you can find from Kowloon side.

For your concern on travelling to HK island, I think the faster way can be: KCR --> Tsim Sha Tsui East --> MTR. The whole trip takes about 40mins to Central.

Have you visited the Shatin Town Plaza which connect with the KCR? Shops there including Citysuper, Esprit, Mango, Pedder Red, Cour Carre, BodyShop, Manning, Watsons, U2, Bossini, UA Cinema..etc. Information from last year, the traffic of the Shatin Town Plaza was one of the busiest mall in the world. It was a small town but not that small afterall
