Thinking about this I'd really appreciate some local news topics on here. I'm sorry to admit that my homepage is still set to Sydney Morning Herald (free!!) so I probably know a good more about whats going on in Australia than a lot of Aussies.

So its a shame I know close to nothing about whats going on around me in here in HK. When are you thinking of firing this up KIA?

I love the idea; it should get comprehensive commentary out there a lot faster than some of the print media; just remember the 'debate' about ESF school teacher salary cuts that seemed to go on at a rate of one 'letter to the editor' per day in the SCMP for over a month. So painfully slow ...!

Anti-discrimination law?

[quote=KnowItAll]A lot ...

2) New rumors about the anti-discrimination law .. which might end up being so severe that it will affect expat allowances

KIA,

Can you elaborate on the rumors surrounding the anti-discrimination law and how it might affect expat allowances please.

Hmm... How would you break it down? Would it be divided between opinion and news or broken down further? Also, where do you draw the line between news and opinion? They are a much of a muchness, particulary if you watch FoxNews.

It would certainly be interesting to read/ contribute to, as would a 'future news' section that allowed you to predict the news. I.e. discuss just how long it will be before Iran gets invaded, or what will happen to Hong Kong with regards to 'Democracy' and when.

Wait and watch...

basically it looks like businesses may need to justify why an imported employee is needed over a local one...

Well, that article will certainly send the legal guys here into a scramble. Our office will be in Shenzen (but we will be living in HK) so I am hoping it will never apply to me.

It is not yet law. Your contract will be grandfathered in if it is signed before the so called law passes.
