Best place in Mongkok would be the arcade on Argyle Road, located between Sai Yeung Choi Street and Tung Choi Street, right next to the Sunday store. It's just full of mobile phone companies. Always one of them who are able to unlock phones. Once a phone is unlocked it can be made to work on all networks with all features including 3G. It just has to be set up correctly.

All the shops will unlock the phone for you but they all outsource it to the same guy. Go direct to:

Chung Wai International
Shop G 95 B, Sincere House Commercial Podium
83 Argyle Street, Mong Kok

It's a little repair booth in that shopping centre with all the mobile phones.
Shops generally charge around $150 including their mark-up. You should expect to pay about $100 or less dealing direct with this booth. Be warned, typically no one speaks English - so go with a Cantonese speaking friend.

hey, thanks everyone for the tips on the place in mk to get phones unlocked.
we went today and prices started around $120 - 150 before we went to the 2nd floor and got a quote for $80. it took roughly 10 mins to do. very good!!
