| Long land lease terms in HK Back in the early years of British rule, I heard that the colonial government gave really long term land leases. I think they were land leases that had a lifespan of something like 500 to 1000 years. I don't know exactly how long, but it was way past 1997.
How are these long term land leases handled now? From what I understand, all land leases are set to expire on or before 2047. How were these long term land leases legally amended to have a shortened life span without causing a serious legal problem?
Do you guys think that land leases with be renewed after 2047 and that HK will more or less have it's special status renewed after 2047? (No matter what anyone says, there is no way that China's economic and legal system will catch up to Hong Kong's by 2047, the SAR must be renewed otherwise HK's economic and legal system will totally go in the toilet) |
