Hospital visits

Fortunately it's not an emergency situation, but the good lady needs to go see a neurologist and, after finding out the consultation with the specialist is HKD1500 were wondering what the form is with govt hospitals.

Do you just show up and a staff neurologist sees you or do you have to make an appointment there too? Would you also go there if you had a sore back, or headaches etc and see a specialist or would you see a GP and be referred from there?

Do you bring your ID card and pay a nominal fee or do you get charged pro-rata? all these questions from someone who has always had, and still does have, medical insurance but would sometimes rather not split with that much money for someone's 5 minutes!

The normal process is that someone needs to refer you. I think a private GP can refer you.. I'm not too sure if the referal needs to be a govt doc.

You then make an appointment (which gets triaged). Might take some time, but the best thing to do is to get into the system as early as possible -- god forbid -- to ensure that if the problem escalates, you're well ... in the system.

Valencia1 will become famous soon enough
Check to see in which hospital you would like the lady to see the specialist (considering the location and the time of waiting), then go to any govt clinic and ask a GP for a referral. For seeing a govt specialist, be expected to wait for 3 months - 1 year. The fees are standard as listed by the govt.
