Arrow dependent parent

Hi!

I recently accepted a job as a professional in HK. I expect to move there in a few weeks and will be on probation for 3 months at least. When my employment becomes permanent, I plan to apply a dependent visa for my mom who is almost at a retirement age. (at least where I'm from she's almost at retirement. What's the retirement age in HK???)

Any idea how I can make this application for her? How long and how difficult does it usually take to make this application? Does it vary depending on nationality?

Any info would be a lot of help. Many thanks!

Retirement age in HK has nothing to do with dependent visa.. though 60 is the min age required for parents to be eligible for dependent visa..
Obviously you can apply to Immigration department
Usually takes a month to month and a half
Its pretty straight forward procedure with no difficulties at all IMO
No.. nationality has nothing to do here..

Er, parents of people here on Employment Visas are not, in general, eligible for Dependent Visas. Only parents of people with Permanent Resident status are so eligible.

See paras 38 & 39 here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_1.htm

Quite right PDLM Only permanent ID holders can sponsor their dependant parents. I have filed a case under special circumstances for my parents as i am not yet a permanent ID. So far they tell me it doesn't look good... but that's HK Immigration !!!!

Lilo,
I am fighting for an dependent visa since a few month. I am a grandma, but younger than 60 years, the procedure is difficult, but my last interwiev with the Immigration Office gave me some hope. If you like, send me an email for details.

Thanks a lot for your insights, everyone! I will let you know if I find other info on it. I'd like to look at all the options I can get. If worse comes to worst, maybe we'll settle for long-term visas if there is one.

Conni, I sent my addy in your email. thanks!

That doesn't work either - I know a number of people on employment visas who have tried to get one or more parents in. And none of them has really succeeded - generally after a few tourists visa renewal runs to Shenzhen or Macao Immigration give you notice that this is the last time they are letting them in, and when that period expires they have to go home.
