Hi there all, just found this site, thank god is all I can say. Im going to get married soon (my fiance is from HK), and we are probably going to move there, seeing as she is a HK citizen will I have any problems with imigration getting a HK ID card. She says it should be no prob but I tought Id post a message up. Also (dont know if this is the right place), how hard is it to find a job if you havent got a degree, Im a telecomms engineer here in the UK and there seems to be a load of jobs in HK, anway.

If she has a HKSAR passport or a permanent ID card, you will get a dependant visa and will be allowed to work.

The telco sector is in doldrums... here. However, lots of opportunities if you have the ability to work, in other areas.

Thanks for the nfo. my fiance was under the impression I should be able to get a HK ID card but I thought I might need a visa. So what sort of work is easily available then, Iva managed to find a few telco jobs online but it sounds like it might be bar work

To get a Hong Kong ID card, you need a valid visa. In your case, this will be a dependants visa.

If you don't have a degree and can't speak Cantonese, it will be pretty hard to find a job.

Ive been learning some mandarin and cantonese over the last year so Im not too worried about that. As for the work issue, Im confident I should be able to pick a low paid job like bar work or in a call center, which should give me breathing space to find something in my area (telecomms / computers). Any ideas or comments are always welcome so please stick you oar in
