Any expat play Majong?

I have just figure out that expat in HK do play Majong very well. In Chinese culture, many people enjoy play in front of the public. It is not hard to see them playing in front of shops or at home with window open. However, I have just heard that expat even rent a flat for Majong gathering! Expat prefer to hide and play majong! Is that true? Everytime I see expat buying the Majong game I though they just buy it as souvenir but I just I have to change my mind. What a shame on me I don't even know how to play Majong! Actually is there any rule different when expat playing the Majong?

I do play from time to time. I discovered in by watching HK movies and then learned with local friends. No special rules. The rules always depends with whom you play (macau rules, HK rules, guangzhou rules...)

The American Women's Assn have a very active Mahjong group. They play once or twice a week.

actually diff places play with diff rules. and i think some of the rules are quite distinctive. e.g. the japanese versus the singaporean versus the taiwanese versus the hkers...

i am not sure about the hk and the taiwan ones, but i am very sure jap and singaporean/malaysian are distinctively diff in game rules.. so the mindset and strategy are qutie diff for these 2..

the only way to learn, is by joining in and paying some 'school fees'.. haha.
i.e. go lose some money to frens and pals and u will pick up the game in no time. 8-)
