Hi,

A few years back (actually over a couple of decades) I was in HKG and visited the Waltzing Matilda - it was a bit scruffy but OK. Does anyone know if it is still there?

I also went to Shenzhen which was very basic as the work had not really started - does anyone know of a site where I could see graphics of how it was as my wife will not believe it.

I dont know about the Waltzing Matilda - there used to be a Ned Kellys in Kowloon but I think it died off during SARS.

I've never heard of a Waltzing Matilda Bar either... these days we have the Kangaroo Bar on the Island side, and a resurrected Ned Kelly Bar over at Kowloon. I've heard there's one more Aussie Bar over at Kowloon, but can't remember what its called.

The Waltzing Matilda Inn was at 9 Cornwall Avenue, Kowloon. Tel k-676874. There was a sister bar called Waltzing Matilda Arms at 22 Cameron Road, Kowloon. I have a business card from the Inn which has a push out thumb shaped lip to enable you to place it on your glass since the back of the card says "Please Don't Touch! Gone to wee wee"

I lived in HK for 3yrs in the early 1960's and the Waltzing Matilda, Cornwall Ave was one on my ports of call. I can still remember some great evenings in there.
My partner and I went back to visit the 'Colony' in 1996 and the WM was still going then but from the other posted replies it would appear it has now closed.
Like everywhere else the place has changed quite a bit over the years but to me it felt like it was yesterday; great memories.
