Students cannot work part time.

For educational purposes you need the following supporting information / documents.

http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_4_1b.htm

Immigration does not "control" foreign students, however, if you're caught working illegally, you will face deportation.

Wink

hi, my name is kathleen and i am a singaporean going to HK to do my Phd. Basically to get a student visa if you are in singapore is to go to the China embassy near tanglin mall and the visa takes 4-6 weeks to apply. Alternatively you can get your sponsor in HK to apply for you from the HK immigration department. For all the forms, go to the Hk immigration dept website

Cool ID card

when you are in HK, you got to go to the immigration department to make an ID card for your stay in HK.

Hope your application is sucessful.

I am studying in City University. My area of research is in International Business/ business strategy.

So are you living and studying in Singpaore now?

Why don't you try and apply for a degree course or associate degree course? the associate degree course is 2 years I think and it will probably be better than studying in a private school and it is easier to get in than the degree course but i think you have to pay more.

The reason I suggest this is that it probably is better for your future career and also it might be easier to get the student visa if you are enrolled in a proper university.

MY CANTONESE IS TERRIBLE!!!

yipee.... i have finally found some other poor suffering soul out there who can't speak cantonese...

Well, I can't speak Cantonese but if someone speaks to me in Cantonese slowly, I can understand.

I am a Hokkien you see and have lived in Singapore all my life except when I was doing my Masters. I got my Masters from University of New South Wales in Sydney.

I am going to HK to do my Mphil/Phd because my uncle is there and my research is based on MNCs in China and also on Chinese firm. Also, I am on a studentship, meaning that the university will subsidise my living allowance.

I been to HK in Spetember to meet up with my supervisor and to fix my visa and you don't have to speak Cantonese to study in HK as the courses are taught in English (my supervisor who is a professor lecturing there don't speak cantonese too). The only thing is all most of your classmate will be speaking in Cantonese.

Yup City university is in Kowloon Tong and that is where my uncle is teaching too.

Anyway, I hope the information I provided is useful. By the way, is your sponsor related to you, ie like a relative?
