Calling China from HK

Just moved here. Initial inquiries with PCCW indicate that it's significantly more expensive to call China from HK than it is to call from the US. Hard to imagine. Is there a better way?

Well with 1507 it's currently HKD0.07 to ring a land line number in China from HK.

And HKD0.17 (roughly: EUR 0.017 to be precise) on Skype out (with the added inconvenience of being attached to your PC). Will someone please remind me again what's so great about skype? (Apart, obviously, from the marketing that dupes lots of gullible people.)

there's nothing fantastic about skype, in fact the sound quality's pretty poor. only advantage is them socking it to regular phone co's.
