Yung Kee restaurant in Central for dinner near LKF.(prefer BBQ dish) Luk Yu tea house in Stanley street in Central for lunch. (just famous with culture) But for special, I think is Kau Kee restaurant beef noodles in Gough Street. The noodle soup is full of Chinese medicine. The shop will not open in the morning and close very early. Everthing will sold out in a couple of hours. Don't remember whether it open on holidays. You can call to check 28150123/28505967. Around $40-$60 per head. Many Japanese tourist do wait outside for orders. The bad thing is no decoration and seat very uncomfortable.

Kau Kee is renowned for it's excellent beef shank hor fun but the interior and service is very basic and fast food style.

Since it is kind of a business-y dinner, need something more formal/fancy, though those are great suggestions to try when I have friends visiting (heck I may try those myself anyway!). Thanks.

Many Chinese restaurants in TST East have sea views, those situated by the seaside like TST Centre and Empire Centre. They're medium-priced. For better quieter environments you have try restaurants in a 5-star hotel. I've been to one in the basement of Shangri-la, many years ago, forgot the name, very pricey, no windows or view, but the environment is quiet and good for business. The diff. between an average restaurant to that in a hotel is they divide the food for you, since westerners don't like eating from the same dish (sounds unhygienic) as Chinese do. In general, restaurants in TST East won't be crowded, except with loads of tourists. But don't go there during Christmas time 24-26 Dec, since you can see nothing but people in the streets.

If you can make it as far as Kowloon Bay then go for "Fong Sin" (I think it's Imperial Kitchen) on the top floor of Telford Plaza Phase II. Top quality service, cuisine and decor. Usually need to book unless you get there early for dinner (by 6pm).

Fong Sin does have specialties you can't find in the average restaurant, Beijing style. It's a place for business. I haven't been there but I know they have the Emperor's/Beggar's chicken, chicken wrapped in cement/bread and opened with a hammer, very interesting.

I think you won't go wrong dining at one of Maxim's restaurants. How about Peking Garden....can have Peking duck!

| Is it for lunch or dinner? Lunch is OK during Dec 24-26 since the streets will get crowded only after 6 pm, but the restuarant is always crowded at lunchtime. If the restaurant is crowded or you like some privacy, book a VIP room, usually they charge more for the tea etc. I think you Jap friend may be interested in birds' nest. Some restaurants like Chiuchow City in TST East have this, but there're 2 Chiuchow City there I think. The one I went to was upstairs, not the one downstairs. Their food was really good. | Check if they still have the big gate crabs (maybe a bit off season now), if they do they have nice set meals with crabs, birds' nest and other dishes, I once had a Jap friend who was crazy about crabs and finished every little bit of it. |
