..if you want LOCAL then you live in ShamShuiPo, Mei Foo or other similar areas...WAN CHAI is NOT local. It is a fun place but definitely a lot of foreigners living there (Less probably than Midlevels..) but don't call it local crowd....

That is funny because most of my neighbors in my building didn't speak English and were all Chinese.

... actually, living in DB keeps me sane. I need to escape the noise, pollution, crowds of Central on a regular basis or I start getting irritable. This is my third year in DB and yes, there were days when I was ready to move to the mid-levels, but in hindsight it's been a good experience. There is something soothing about stepping off the ferry into the DB plaza in the evening as is knowing that I can have both the big city life and serenity in the same day.

I agree with Texasaxel here. Stepping off the ferry in the evenings feels like arriving in a total different world - especially listening to the wonderful spectacle the birds are creating in the trees near the ferry pier. I lived in Central before and would not be keen on moving back there.

actually probably not such a good reference here ... its probably more akin to the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe where you pass through the wardrobe into a completely different world ... maybe the ferry has majical powers

just out of interest why are those bird so frenzied some days in there singing?

Not sure what the birds are on or have taken during the day. But around 7:30 - 8:00pm they create quite a racket in the trees near the ferry pier.
clip-my-wings you are entitled to have you opinion about DB and so are others entitled to have theirs...
There really are people who enjoy lining there.

hey Elle,

i think you mis-interpretated my post .. i do live in DB and enjoy it as well

i was trying to give a balanced account of life there ... my point was that its a world apart from when you leave central on the ferry and arrive in DB .. like another dimension

birds

did you notice how difficult it is to see those birds in the trees? seems like there millions of them but they all appear to be hiding or well camourflaged

also i only here them on certain days ...

wonder what they're are saying ? maybe its ... " look , look clip my wings gonna miss the ferry and be late for work , hehehe"

but i do find the sound both soothing and amusing

Depends on whether you can tolerate the ferry rides. I get sea sick (yes) on ferry trips to Lamma Island, Macau etc so I don't think I can live there.

clip_my_wings - hmm, good point. So maybe the rumour is true that HKR put speakers into the trees near the ferry pier...
