You're top 10 (nearby) holiday destinations...

We've just arrived in HK and already starting to plan some long weekends away i.e. Chinese New Year, Easter etc.

It seems you can get some real bargains - esp. if you fly from Shenzen and not HK Airport.

Would love to know what you're fave destinations are i.e. max of 3-4 hours flying...ideally 1-2 hours...not just in China but Asia generally.

We are off the Guilin/Yangshao on Friday...yey!

Also, if anyone knows of a good local travel agent then let me know.

Cheers!

- Guilin/Yangshuo (country side)
- Yunnan (minorities/landscapes/delicious food)
- Sichuan (minorities/Juizhaiguo/road to Tibet/Spicy food)
- Xi an (army)
- Qingdao (beer and german architecture)
- Lanzhou-Turpan-Urumuqi (silk road...fantastic)
- Guangdong Province (nearby and so different from HK)

In Asia:
- Vietnam From Hanoi to Saigon
- Philippines Mindoro Island/Boracay
- Singapore
- Malaysia
- Japan - Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto/Nara
- Thailand (good but too touristic those days)
- Mongolia (great change)

Laughing_Monkey will become famous soon enough
Mongolia (outer - the country) is awesome, esp around this time of year. Go stay in a ger tent and ride mongolian war ponies (horses-yerh right) through the snow.

Breathtaking views, amazing countryside, nothing like it.

Infact, i dont think there is anywhere like Mongolia. Ulan Bator is the only capital city ive ever been too without ANY chain stores, not even a McNasties...

Take the train btw.

Otherwise, Thailand - bottle beach on Koh Phangan....

P.s. Ulan Bator has a massive buddha in the temple there, bigger than the one here and its inside.

Chang Mai also a great place.

It all depends what you want, and whether your thinking little shack on the beach or the Shangra La

Malaysia: Langkawi (try staying at the Tanjung Rhu)
Bali: Stay away from Sanur and Kuta beach (splash at the Four Seasons if you can)
Bintan: Stay at the Banyan Tree
Cambodia: gotta see Angkor Wat
Thailand: stay at a top notch place in Bangkok, venture to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai

There are still places I have not done but would love to:

Bhutan
Vietnam
Burma
