Hi
This is not the advice I have had.
I am in HK with my partner whose job relocated from UK. UK-qualified doctors are no longer recognised (I was told this is a reciprocal thing in UK too - ie that Hong Kong qualifications do no longer get you a job automatically)
It is ok for those docs who were here before the regulations changed (?1992 or so)Now there is a licensing exam you may need to take and in order to get full registration yopu have to do a year in a government hospital (house job repeated) I have met UK docs who have found work in the University - some are teaching/researching but do not do any clinical work (no patient contact) some have 'linited registration' ie to cover the job theyve been given by the university. They could not then move to a private hospital, for instance. Was advised that the University may employ you if they have a job for you. I dont think private hospitals/GP surgeries are an option and certainly setting up your own practice requires FULL medical registration (which you cant get unless you do the exam/years house job) Was advised by a consultant that government hospital jobs are oversubscribed (there arent enough for local graduates)and Cantonese is nearly a must. There are privately run clinics but they requyire you to have your registration sorted.
Havent tested all this out but just passing on advice I received. Certainly not easy for overseas graduates(you are now an 'overseas' graduate as a UK graduate ) in Hong Kong, though possibly not impossible!
You can get further advice from the Hong Kong medical council.
In UK I found very few consultants knew about the regulations they assume its easy since Hong Kong used to be British,
Hope this helps best to research a bit more.
I think even Hong Kong nationality returning might have problems now (again used to be automatic registration)
