Wink Hip Hop (dance) Lovers

I'm in Hong Kong for the holidays until the beginning of Feb. I've been dancing Hip Hop for the past 5 years and am getting withdrawal symptoms I'm wondering if there's any good dance studios that teach Hip Hop at an effortable price, since the amount you have to pay here is like 10 times more expensive than overseas'. Actually I want to teach, I'm taking my exam for teacher's diploma in Hip Hop next year. So if anyone is interested in dancing in your free time for the love of dancing...PM me!

You mean there is actually a Hip Hop certification process ?? No offense, I think personally the Hip Hop music is trash. The only words that seem to be standing out in any Hip Hop lyrics are those of profanity or nasty in nature. I honestly can’t understand the lyrics and sometimes when someone driving behind me had that throbbing beat cranked up really gets on my nerve. Being a Hip Hop teacher sounds like a something that may work in the US or Brit. In HK…..? Hey, Just my 2 cents, no offense.

No offense taken. I know, it does sound weird. There are different types of 'Hip Hop', personally, I think true Hip Hop dance form is all about creativity and freedom of expression through dance. Creating a system like Ballet or Modern totally denies what Hip Hop is all about. I don't like the syllabus I do in the grades, I'm only doing the exam for the teacher's diploma to get a qualification, I doubt I'd use the set moves I've learnt...I'm from South Africa, and the dance fraternity I belong to went to make Hip Hop dance the same as Ballet and the likes, and other sports to have colours (recognition of your achievements). So now we have colours for Hip Hop. I think it's all bullshit...

oh, and as for the music, not my favourite to listen to, but great for dancing to...There are good Hip Hop tunes out there with brilliant lyrics, and I'm talking about authentic rappers, not wannabes from HK...

Agreed! There are some decent Hip Hop tunes which I don't mind. But it's the gangster rap and degenerative raps I can't swallow. You can call me old-fashioned or hipless. I am glad you didn't take offense to my comments.....I think dancing is a great form of self-expression. I like dancing too, but in ballroom style and been doing it for a few years.

Everyone has their opinions...should have an open mind to learn...anyways, I love dancing. Especially Hip Hop and Belly Dancing. Would love to learn all the different styles of Ballroom dancing, and if possible, to learn and master all types of dance :P

hahhahaa...funny, punk. If you don't like the 'gangsta' stuff, listen to Immortal Technique...his lyrics are amazing IMO. Talks about issues in Less Economically Developed Countries that the media often skirts. lol. Common (AKA Common Sense) is good too. Jurassic 5 is good if you like beats. Then there's Christian rap!

I have a student who takes hip-hop dance classes here. Haven't seen her in about a month, though...if I run into her again, I'll ask her where she takes 'em. I believe it might be in Taikoo Shing.

haha, I'm gonna get trashed by people here...I mainly like hip hop for its dancing...don't really care if the music is completely annoyingly commercial, as long as it has cool beats that make me feel like getting up and dance....
