Hospital Authority vrs the Harbour Fest

Watching TV last and they were talking about the Hospital Authority (HA) currently running up around a HK$790 million deficit. Because of this they may have to cut staff and spending and increase public hospital fees.

Now HK$790 sounds a lot to you and me but consider that the Harbour Farce, supposedly organized to raise local moral after SARS, will cost around HK$144 million at the last estimate (again as a reference the HA ran a HK$220 deficit last year) and Mike Rowse was given over HK$ 1 billion for InvestHK. Also God know how much will be spent of Disney Land, the estimate was around HK4 Billion but I am sure will cost a lot lot more in the end.

I think I know where some of this money should have gone, into the HA to improve their services and make sure they are prepared for another SARS or SARS’s like outbreak. Or maybe to the families of those that died or suffered during SARS or to those that survived but may now be plagued by long-term bone disease. This would lift the moral of the local people and show them and the World that the Government cares about the people and is trying to improve the standard of living rather than help a few elite business men make even more money, which surely was the whole point of the InvestHK and Harbour Farce in the first place. But then, what do I know?
