There's a photo booth in the place that Anthony Green suggested (Harbour Road Wanchai, and lift to 5th floor of China Resources Building)

It'll cost something like $30

I did the trip last week (December 2005) with 4 UK passport holders. They applied at the border for a visa - cost HK$450. The whole process took under an hour. Photographs are not required.

Just a point, make sure you have an HK exit stamp in your passport before you apply or you can be knocked back (yes, it seems daft, but apparantly those are / were the rules).

HK$450 at border, usually a bit more expensive at travel agent beforehand, someone on here paid about HK$510 a while back I think.

I am Canadian but what I do is I go all the way through right up until the immigration counters for China. I then make a left and go up the escalator. The visa issuing office takes your passport for 10 minutes and u have a visa. Costs me $150 for Shenzhen up to 5 day and if I go to Zhuhui it is only $100!

It's a kind of tit for tat thing. UK visa's for PRC nationals cost a lot more than a Canadian or Australian visa. So the PRC reciprocates in kind.
