The Merton is something I strongly recommend! I absolutely love the apartment Im going to rent starting next month!!! It's 8K for 400 sq. ft, but it's conveniently located in Kennedy town, near Central relatively. And I have a partial sea view and it's in a very high floor

Yeah, it's wise to budget and save On a normal office day I only allocate HKD 100 for all expenses - food and transport. I just add a little bit more if my office mates want to eat out - then add 50-100 more, but i want that to be occasional!

Wow! That doesn't even pay for the first two beers of the day, never mind food and transport!

I guess there is a huge range of lifestyles in HK, even amongst expats!

Congratulations, coolgirl!!! So last week's outing was productive, huh? Now, you'll have something to keep you occupied during the weekends (furnishing your apartment, that is)..

:-D

well, as I know, the average salary for HK family is around $30k for 2 pax. You are live in a "upper" market with $40k already.

if you don't drive a car,
yes it is enough..

considering this
a flat's rental is HK$12000 per month (good area, sufficient space)
plus medical insurance + life insurance = HK$2500 for month (for 2 persons)
food...(if going out) = lunch HK$45 per person (very decent)
and dinner = HK$80 per person (very decent)

transportation (try to live same area as your works to save money)
avoid living in New Territories (country side) because transporation cost can be from HK$30 to $50 per day...to go to city to work

if you cook at home, you can save alot.

As long as you don't live a typical "expat" lifestyle, you'll be more than fine with $40K a month. Just don't blow all your money at the bar every night, and stick to the awesome local food instead of eating and shopping at the 'expat' places. You'll be fine, and will be able to enjoy and experience hong kong instead of simply living there.

I can't believe people don't think $40K isn't more than enough to get by on after $10K going to rent. Where do you guys blow all your money? LOL

Second that.

$20k is even more than enough to live. I think I spend like 4k besides rent on my own, and I feel I'm living luxurios

You say you don't go party, so there you go - the rest isn't expensive, unless you avoid Parkn'Shop in favor of CitySuper.
