HKU MBA or HKUST MBA

My wife just got accepted to the HKU MBA program, but has to decide by next week to accept the offer. She is also considering HKUST's program. Any thoughts on which program is more respected over there? Weighing our pros and cons now. Thanks!

Do you know which HKUST program? There is one that is an executive MBA that is run joint with Northwestern at HKUST and then just a normal HKUST MBA program.

The one that is run joint with Northwestern is rated like the 2nd best MBA in Asia and the regular one is rated in the top 10.

I would think that the Northwestern-HKUST MBA program would be better than the HKU program because it has the Northwestern name attached to it, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the reply Mrcheese. It would be for the fulltime MBA program. HKU has a joint program now with London Business school which sounds interesting.

HKU rocks. According to The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), its MBA is ranked no1 in Asia and no 45 in the world. Im an undergrad in HKU at the moment, and will stay for 3yrs...its a good school!

Here's another MBA ranking by Financial Times. HKU doesn't seem to be ranked in this one.

I am in the HKUST MBA program

I like HKUST, but I don't know much about HKU. I will say it's one of the most challenging experiences of my life. I spend about 100 hours a week studying (including going to classes) and I would say that is about average for our class. The full time program also includes an exchange semester at another school. Schools range from Berkeley, Columbia, Duke, LBS,Cornell, and many more.

happy to answer more questions.

Hku Vs Hkust

HKU MBA in partnership with London Business School is the right choice. HKUST is riding on its EMBA which very different to the MBA. In Asia HKU has a very good name and as I know the student body in HKU is far more international. I was told by my friend that HKU cannot participate in the FT ranking as their full-time MBA is only 4 years old and to be in FT ranking you need to be atleast 5 years old. HKU has done very well in just 4 years and has in fact emerged as the No 1 business school in entire Asia in the Ecomomist ranking. My advise will be HKU.

An HKUST MBA FT alumni's thought..

Guys, I do not know much about HKU so no comments on it...

My peice of mind based on being an alumni of HKUST's full time MBA.

1) It has been ranked consistently in the top 50 univs. by the Financial Times for the last few years...
2) It's exchange program with the best univs in the world is a wonderful experience....I did mine at Kenan Flagler, Univ. of North Carolina.
3) Around 60% of my batchmates were from different countries...mainland china, india, malaysia, france, thailand, phillipines, korea etc. with an average work ex of 4 years..so in addition to a multicultural mix..tapping from the various experiences was enlighting.. i moved from India and was instantly comfortable with the place/ people.
4) Exchange students from different univs. were in great numbers adding to the fun..
5) faculty was great..different nationalities..from top univs.
6) Good place to network..landed my job at LVMH in the univ.

Lastly of what I know the team from HKUST has been consistently winning the annual business plan competitions competiting with the top US b-schools...info on the website..www.bm.ust.hk

Any specific info needed them PM me....

cheers,
Anand
