Expatriate has pissed of a few people
Best or second best is more a religious question.

The air and the surroundings are definitely better at HKUST.

Yup, the problem is after you move out later from the ust doms facing the sea into the clastrophobic concrete jungle

Gmat

I was recently succesful in my application for the part time program at HKUST (starts in a couple of weeks), and in fact they gave me a conditional acceptance even before I had taken my GMAT (pending 'satisfactory' score). I had mixed feelings on that, my serious kicking butt of the GMAT wasn't even ultimately all that useful

I doubt they put much of a weighting factor on GMAT scores. Since most applicants don't have English as a mother language, the scores are naturally going to be quite a bit lower - there's some tricky English sections on the GMAT, I certainly don't envy non-native English speakers who took the test.

HKUST 2006 intake info

Message sent to alumni....

Below info for those who want to know the class split for 06..

Welcome MBA Program 2006 Intake

Cheers for a record-breaking year for MBA admission with the largest
Full-time
class (75) and Shenzhen group (60) this year! The Shenzhen students
are
going to join another 140+ part-timers for the Residential Program in
Regal
Airport Hotel, making it the biggest we have ever had.

The FT class represents 19 different nationalities including students
from
Brazil and Chile the first time. Adding to the diversity of PT class
are
those from Belgium, Canada (native ones), Italy, Ireland, Malaysia, and
PRC
- they are mostly expatriates working in Hong Kong.

This year, we are also pleased to have 10 senior MBA alumni to sit on
the
admission panel in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. Of course, there
are
even more alumni who have helped in the Information Session and
referred
their friends to our program. A big THANKS indeed to all of you for the
great success we have this year!

Hi Panda,
I am a new entry, an aspirant for HKUST MBA and am eager to figure out my standing.
I am 24 now, and aiming for 2007 fall session; by then I shall have 3.1 yrs of exp including 1.75 years international exposure.
I am s/w engineer by education and profession.
Completed my B.Tech in C.S with a good score from India and have a decent show in extra curricular activities.
My GMAT test is scheduled end of this year which should fetch me a OK score, about 7xx.
I am also interested in knowing the placement and work permit scenario after passing out of HKUST.
Kindly also throw some light on what happens if I want to do my MBA in 12 months and not 16.

Thanks and Regards,
Bhaskar.

u know, lets put it this way, if u have to squeeze past the criteria of work experience and watever qualitative criteria to get into a business program, then its prob not so worth it.

anyway i just went for the EMBA briefing by INSEAD for their combined program with qing hua university. hmmm... interesting. but again the questions the attendees asked were quite miserable.
for 65k usd i think they are quite open to take in any students as long as u can prove that u are confident and contribute to their alumni list.. or contribute to their GMAT average.

end of the day, paying 65k usd and prob just getting marginal benefit out of it, and in addition the 70days of absence which is likely a much larger cost opportunity.. guess i'd have to put this on hold till i get sick of my job

HKUST

HKU has one of the most arrogant and unprofessional admission systems (and personnel in it) I have ever experienced.

HKUST, its fine admit team, and its NYU partnership trump anything HKU has to offer.
