I have taken some courses at the school of business at HKU and know many people who have earned their MBAs from HKU. My impression of the program is quite a bit lower than some others who posted earlier. There are some excellent professors in the faculty, but also some lousy ones (poor communicators, do not know their subject matter, have no significant commercial experience) that you would not find in most other business schools. There is a unit at HKU that develops regional case studies that are the basis for many of the courses. Some professors are so dependent on using these case studies that do almost no other preparation for their teaching. At times it seems that they are trying to steer class discussion without adding any value and without having read the cases in any detail themselves. It is quite common to find inaccuracies in the material if you are familiar with the companies or industries involved. The reason HKU has performed well in recent rankings is that they have invested a lot in self-promotion the last few years, as you would notice if you read a variety of regional publications.

I just graduated from HKUST and are waiting for my work visa now.

Work experience will be counted until the day you start the program, that will be in your case in August 2007, which gives you another year. I have a classmate from India who was also only 23 or 24 at the start of the program. I can sent you his contact. I think you should do fine in the GMAT if you practise hard enough, since you are an engineer your should be fine with Maths and English shoulnt be a issue either since you are from India.

Getting an internship is not too difficult; however getting a good internship is a challenge (as everywhere in world). Some international students have also a slight disadvantage because for some jobs you have to be able to speak Mandarin or Cantonese. In addition HK does not have a strong internship culture like the US, but if you network a lot and use your friends, family and country chamber, getting an internship should not be an issue.

For the GMAT it depends on the rest of your profile. If you have a lot of working experience your GMAT score might not be as important. The average is somewhere between 610-630 with the top score at 760. Personally I think the GMAT doesnt tell you much about the potential of a person.

Ya, in a way, i agree with you. My fear is that if my husband takes time off to do his masters and than when he wants to get back into work, he might have probs getting a job. Ha....maybe you guys might be classmates!
