Is my employer's health cover adequate?

hello,
These are great forums which have given me lots of useful advise.
My employer is transferring me to HK, the health insurance they provide seems ok (based on the research i have done on this site), but could someone please confirm that I would be able to visit English speaking western trained doctors and not wait months for appointments, and if I did need hospitalisation that I would be able to go to a reasonably decent private hospital, with decent food, ok nursing etc?

HKD1,300 per day room per day for hospital visit
HKD1,300 per day for doctor visit
Surgical fee depeding on complexity of operation (HKD7,000-70,000)
HKD 400 per regular doctors visit
HKD 600 specialist consultation

Thanks

This covers basic illness. If you suspect you have some serious health condition, you can always call any insurance agent and ask for a "catastrophic" medical insurance and pay for it by yourself. Then you should be safe.

Government hospital is also pretty good in HK except very crowded( each doctor goes through 100 patients per day!). If one had serious illness, government hospital even a better choice. Dental may be a problem if your package do not include any. Regarding meals, the hospital provide a full menu, just check the boxed what u want to eat.

$70K is inadequate for private hospital / critical surgery.

$600 per specialist consultation is on the low end. For example my eye doctor charges $700 per visit and I imagine a neurosurgeon would charge a lot more (which is probably when you really need the insurance).

Look for Goodhealth or William Russell plans and compare.

Thanks knowitall for the information. I had a look at the policies you describe and they look good but dont cover pre existing conditions. I take some regular medication and have 6 monthly checkups as well. Do you know of any health insurance that does over pre existing conditions?

I suppose if i get really sick i will just go home, but it would be good to know if I was covered in an emergency
