Does anyone know of a residential internet service provider that gives and open static IP address? I need it to program my IP phone. If so what are the rates? Also, is a commitment required?

Why do you need a static ip for your ip phone? i have an ip phone from canada and i use a router to direct it. you can use a router and reserve the ip address for the ip phone. i don't really understand your question unless your ip phone uses a public ip address to dial to other ip addresses.

I use a vpn system from my hk office to my office in china. the cost for the serivce w/ a reserve dynamic ip address is around 1500 hk dollars a month. I use an ip phone to dial anywhere around the world its a good service. the other thing you should check out is in the states there is a primus company called "Lingo" for 29.95 US you can dial anywhere in the world almost for free. you have to double check on that though.

A little too technical for me. I was just told by my US office to get the cable or DSL connection set up as soon as possible so that we can get the IP address to servcom so that they can go ahead and pre-program and synchronize the phone.

We are just using it so that it is as if the phone is in Dallas, TX. Therefore, it has a Dallas, TX phone number, but it rings in Hong Kong. This way someone from home can call me in HK as a local call and I can call back home as a local call. The phone is about $800USD. Do you know of a better way to accomplish the same thing?

If its a corporate phone, yes it might need a static address.

Indeed - this is a security requirement from your IT people, not something that is inherently needed for all IP phones.

Hi you can check out pccw and see if they offer it or not. The company i'm paying for my vpn is different. i can foward you their number but i need to find it again. I'm in china now and won't be back to my hk office till monday. let me know if you want the number.

And yes it is a cooperate phone. The local number is my office in Dallas,TX. You hit a certain extension number and it rings me Hong Kong. I have the same set up already in my HK office, but was curious if there are different options for my home.
