WTO Protests in Hong Kong: What to expect?

With the WTO meeting being held shortly what are the expectations regarding disruptions and the like? Do you expect a lot of protests? Or for it to be a relatively calm affair?

I'm actually quite apprehensive about this but I cant see HK police or mainland support police putting up with anything! I do know that some companies based in Central Plaza are closing and making people work from home.

I'm quite pissed off that I cannot buy any bootlegged movies and games for my PC and playstation until Dec 20. Also fans of copied designer clothes and watches will be out of luck.

The police should do what they used to do Singapore and clobber the protestors over the head.

From what people are saying it sounds like there are gonig to be riots, but i cant imagine it to be honest. HK doesnt strike me as the kinda place that jobless thugs run about throwing chairs through McDonalds windows and defacing statues of war heros etc etc like your average mayday in the uk.

However, its prob going to attract the kind of people that follow these events around the world looking to cause trouble so it should be interesting. What will be more interesting is whether the police will be able to go the whole thing without being acused of HR abuses by anyone they arrest....

Anyway, what kinda coverage is there going to be? What are the dates anyway?

It will fizzle out.

Keep in perspective that Hong Kong is too expensive a place for the hard core unemployed idiots who love to throw a good riot.

Not for the americans... wait, well yes, but ... do hippies watch football in the US? Thought it would be too violent a sport for them.

Maybe a load of them will come in on 'Rainbow Warrior'.

There does certainly seem to be a correlation between people with no job and a chip on their shoulder about society giving them a rough deal, and violent protestors...

If HK does get smashed up I bet someone will set up a stall selling T-Shirts saying, "I smashed up HK and all i got was this lousey t-shirt"....
