Question project in Hong Kong

I'm a British passport holder coming over to HK for 2 months in January. I know I can stay for 6 months as a tourist with no visa but I want to do a medical elective project while I'm out there which would count towards my medical degree. The hospital has agreed to let me do this on an independent basis, unpaid, but I apparently need a work visa which involves getting a long form about the companys financial status and "why can't a local do the job" sections being filled in and also requires a sponser. I don't have any contacts in Hong Kong who could be my sponser and the hospital isn't keen to apply for a work visa for me. Can I apply for the visa once I get to Hong Kong and make some contacts?

Email the immigration department and ask them about unpaid internships. Short term training related visas are easier to get.
