Software developers for weekly/monthly dinner/brunch

I moved to HK a couple of years back and manage to keep up with what's going on via blogs and forums and keep in touch with former colleagues and some peers via email and instant messaging, but am missing face-to-face interaction with other software folks. I primarily develop web apps (PHP and MySQL) and frontends (JS/DOM/CSS/(X)HTML) but have wide-ranging interests in the field.

Although I'm, aware that HK has a LUG (<http://www.linux.org.hk/>), it seems as though they're primarily Canto-speakers and I haven't been able to turn up any other HK-based professional associations or informal groups in the few minutes that I spent Googling, so I was wondering whether any of the English-speaking software developers/engineers/CS people that frequent this site (assuming they exist ) would be interested in starting up a weekly or monthly dinner or brunch.

I'm crossposting this to the "Hong Kong Technology and Internet" section as well in hopes of turning up more folks. I apologize in advance if this is frowned upon.

Drop me a PM... may be we can revive the old /. meetups.

I tend to spend time in UK and US conferences to get my fill of technology...

HKLUG is crap .. they sit around and discuss the latest PDAs and camera phones.

What do you guys prefer?
  1. Weekly / monthly?
  2. Which meal: Breakfast? Brunch/Lunch? Dinner?
  3. Which day of the week?
  4. Where / Neighborhood?

I think monthly may be more practical and doable for everyone. I like breakfast, but I may be overestimating my ability to get up early. Brunch or lunch would be my second choice. Sundays seem to be the best for me, but other days are possible (except for Saturdays). Last of all, I live in the NT and I'm sure of you are either in Kowloon or on HK Island. What's most convenient for everyone? Travelling is no problem for me.

Meet for a quick drink and see if people even get along. I've known people come to blows over much less than for and while loops.

Fridays after work.

Central.

Hello,

Did anyone meet up in the end? Count me in anyway. I vote for weekly, brunch, Sunday and Central.
