Im looking to spend 9 days in Sri Lanka over Chinease new Year but dont know much about what to see and do in the country. Preferably want to be based in a nice beach area where we can take day trips to different sights. Does anyone have any ideas please?

I say spend a few days in sri lanka, and then go down to the maldives island it's right beside it. It's paradise! forget thailand, burma, malay or even bali.

The beaches are down south, but are not for swimming due to the strong currents.
checkout Taj Bentota Hotel down south you can use the swimming pools.

you can visit the turtle farms, go diving + glass bottom boats to see coral but not much depends on season etc.

Carry your passport at all times due to checkpoints on the roads due to high security
