| undefined undefined HK's mobile phones are very expensive. So, during my vacation in Japan two weeks ago, I bought a mobile phone there. Reasonble price and beautiful. The model is 703SHf. Do you think I can use it in HK now? I heard that if it is unlocked it can be used here but not sure when and how much. |

| Don't think the Japanese phones are GSM (atleast when I used to travel there a few years ago). |

| It looks like a 3G phone in which case it should work here with any 3G provider. |

| Its sad but true that operators here in HK don't subsidize handsets like they do in other countries I think that you will not be able to 'use' your phone here in the sense that you can purchase a SIM card and put it in your phone because Japanese operators use different technologies than the operators in HK. You will, however, be able to roam on another operator's network but this will be very expensive. In Japan NTT DoCoMo uses a standard called PDC while Vodafone and KDDI use CDMA. Basic models of these phones do not have SIM cards, (as do GSM phones) and so you wouldn't be able to install a SIM card from a local operator. Therefore, the issue of unlocking it is a moot point if it is from Vodafone or KDDI phone and I have never of a FOMA phone that was successfully unlocked. I hope this answers your question! | From the japanese website: Available in Japan and in overseas countries and regions with W-CDMA and GSM (900/1,800/1,900MHz) networks. |

Thank you for you guys' opinions. Never expected that I could receive so many replies. Mine is 3G phone. The previous model Sharp 703SH is being sold in the shops. I guess I need to wait till the unlock software comes out. Last edited by hellopretty; 06-12-2005 at 06:57 PM. |

| Sim card ... or sim cardless Genki deska! Very cool phone, Vodafone has been releasing lots of nice new toys lately -especially the dirt cheap v360 which is less than 200AUD (~1000HKD). Note that since it's 3G phone it uses a different band (W-CDMA instead of GSM), so generally speaking - it won't work in HK. But --- does your keitai take sim cards at all? I've got an old skool panasonic (CDMA) which doesn't take sim cards, so I can't put in any sim cards in. I think if yours also doesn't take sim cards, then you might not be able to use it in HK... but it's still a very nice phone.... sooo jealous! =) Gambatte kudasai, -DB- |

| no...the Japan 3G phone has software lock... it won't work with the 3G network in HK... you can still use the phone as a 2G phone! (some people would buy this phone because of its 300mega pixel camera function) **now Japan already has 4mega pixel camera handphone |
