Arthur Li's EMB

Just heard that from 2010 schools wanting to offer EMI (English as the Medium of Instruction) education will have to satisfy a number of strict requirements. One of these is that teachers must gain atleast a grade 'C' in English.

Heaven's above what grade do they have right now a 'D', an 'E' or probably failures!

They would have to shut the system down if they enforced such testing on other subjects.

God forbid that teachers need to be requalified for other subjects and be judged at the same standard that they judge their own students.

Grade "C" in what exam? HKAL or HKCEE? In my subjective opinion, people getting E 20 or 30 years ago may get a C or B today.

I happen to know a 'teacher of English' from an EMI joint, and the other day he asked me if I could find him a cockroach.
" Huh?" I say
" Cockroach!" [this time with raised eybrows.]
In a gesture of submission I put my palms together and bow to him.
"Please speak in Cantonese so that I may be able to assist you." I plead.
" I'm off to Central and was wondering if you could GOOGLE the address of a KFC there in case the need arises for some sustenence"

So to this molder of young impressionable minds, who got a 'C' 4 years ago, and teaches English day in and day out; Google=Cockroach

EGAD!!!

In general, local males are less fluent in spoken English than local females.
