| Communal darkrooms? Are there any communal darkrooms in HK where I can do my own B/W developing and printing. Thanks |

| Digital is the way to go now. We are in HK, a technological city! |

| its very cheap and easy to have your own darkroom in your apartment (being you have enough room). I have set one up in my kitchen and in my bathroom in the past. Technically you can do it in any room you want to...just do final rinse in bathtub or something. Seel off the room with very thick black fabric to block the light, order the liquids and equipment online, and your set to go. obviously its tougher than it sounds....but its always a good option if you miss it that much. I miss it...but i am doing ok without for now in my current apartment. |

Matt, i have seen and used a number of makeshift darkrooms, but there are 2 major issues: 1) it's a pain in the proverbial to keep on setting up and dismantling a dark room, enlarger, safety light etc - enuff to make u find an excuse not to do your hobby on a regular basis 2) you're dealing with some pretty noxious chemicals - not the best to do where ur going to plonk your dot (bath) or cut your veges (hopefully not bath)... the second point is what has turned me off making my own home dark room. i really dont like those chemicals being near where i live/sleep/eat everyday. it's ok if u can put them in a spare room or garage, but you need access to a sink etc. and the residues do take a while to rinse away. hey Sand - maybe a uni/college has a dark room they will let you use? or a hospital? | yeah...i agree it becomes a hazard my univ back home let anyone use it as long as they did 1 of 2 things: 1. volunteer 15 hours a week 2. pay a sum of cash per month |

| I had my own darkroom back in the UK (a tent in the spare room) which was very cheap to set up. Don't have the space here in HK though. |

I had been looking for it too when I came to hk 5 years ago. and i remembered that the Performance Arts Centre in Wanchai have this service available. They only have BW darkrooms for renting and heard they need you to bring your own chemicals. I am actually looking for renting colour darkrooms as i used to print my own colour prints. but i can't find any labs have this service. |
