Because if you were a local, you wouldn't be considered an expat in your own hometown.

Sometimes expat are even more local than the local. I even see an expat husband cooking delicious Chinese dinner for his local Chinese wife three times a week! More important, the local wife never cook. Expats do preserve the culture for the local in certain extend.

i think, in answer to the original question, if this site was designed for born and bred HK locals, it would be called somehting like GeoHK.com, yes? i think KIA in his wisdom called it Geoexpat.com because he intended it as a source of information/entertainment/socialising for expatriates of other countries, now residing, or planning to reside in HK. this does not preclude "locals" from joining the forums, nor preclude expats from calling themselves local.

my question is, why do you ask? or are you asking does any member live in HK presently? cos there are a lot of us that do, a lot that used to, and a lot that will soon - oh, and a few that live in HK sometimes.

Yes they do. Families where there is a blend of one local and one expat quite often send their children to local schools for the language. Local families also send their children to international schools for various reasons.

Just saw a kid who speaks English while his parents speak Cantonese. Funny.
